Mary C
PBA Philippine Cup: San Miguel Beermen vs Northport Batang Pier. Today, September 26 at 4:35PM (GMT +8) On Thursday, September 23, the NorthPort Batang Pier finished their 2021 PBA Philippine Cup elimination round with a 122-94 thrashing of the Alaska Aces at the DHVSU Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga. The Batang Pier won the fifth seed for a best-of-three quarterfinals' series against the mighty San Miguel Beermen with the win. Meanwhile, with a 3-8 record, the Aces fell to 11th position, just ahead of the 0-11 Blackwater Bossing. As a result of Alaska's loss, incumbent champion Barangay Ginebra (4-7) has survived their dreadful title defense campaign and will face the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters (4-7) in an eighth seed playoff on Saturday, September 25. NorthPort star guard Robert Bolick recorded his first PBA triple-double in just the first 24 of his 34 total minutes on the court, and ultimately finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists on 6-of-13 shooting. Meanwhile, his rookie partner-in-crime Jamie Malonzo compensated for Greg Slaughter's absence in the front court by putting up 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks on a 7-of-13 shooting clip. The Aces progressively lost control of the game after a manageable 38-46 disadvantage midway through the second quarter as NorthPort closed out the first half with a 15-5 run for a 61-43 lead. It was then smooth sailing for the Batang Pier in the latter two frames as they peaked with a 29-point lead, 120-91, off a Renzo Subido triple with 1:52 left in regulation. This is going to be a good game as both teams are geared up for the playoff later. Who will do you think prevail? The San Miguel Beerman or Northport Batang Pier?
