Mary C
Champion: ALEXANDER VOLKANOVSKI Challenger: BRIAN ORTEGA Date of the Match: 26 September, 10:00 a.m. (GMT+8) The Return of the Ultimate Fighter by: Barney Cruz In the main event of a five-round bout, Volkanovski will face Ortega. On September 25, 2021, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will host UFC 266 as the climax of this year’s International Fight Week, which will feature a three-fight main card headlined by featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski vs. challenger Brian Ortega for the UFC Featherweight Championship. Volkanovski defeated Holloway to capture the UFC featherweight championship in December of 2019, and went on to successfully defend it when he won the second fight by controversial split decision. He has won 19 straight fights. After Volkanovski defeated Holloway in their first meeting, he became the new UFC featherweight champion, and he demanded another fight against him. Volkanovski seemed to have earned the decision; however, the judges gave it to Holloway. Henceforth, he seeks to recapture his former standing as the world’s best 145-pound fighter. After 14 consecutive wins, Ortega’s winning streak came to an end when he lost a title battle against Holloway in December 2018. However, Ortega returned in October to earn a title opportunity against Chan Sung Jung, getting back in the title picture. But who will have the final say in this one? Will it be the featherweight title holder defending his title for the second time, or the fierce spirit battling to reclaim his lost crown? Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski will be coming back strong since defeating Max Holloway in 2019 and gaining the featherweight title. They also had a split-decision rematch last July with Volkanovski still coming out as the winner. He is also riding a 19 fight winning streak and is looking to defend his title against Brian Ortega. Brian ‘T-City’ Ortega looked like a different man against the Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung last October 2020. He knocked the Korean Zombie twice and landed 127 significant strikes compared to the Zombie’s 62. Brian Ortega also has the ability to finish off opponents in the third round while losing on the scorecards. This tremendous ability was seen before against Thiago Tavares, Clay Guida, Renator Moicano and Diego Brandao. His only loss was against Max Holloway, whom Alexander Volkanovski defeated twice by decision. Ortega and Volkanovski will surely have an all-out brawl, but Volkanovski should retain his belt and win via KO, TKO, DQ and Submission. Volkanovski’s striking defense and footwork is polished enough to fight against Ortega’s deadly left hand. Alexander Volkanovski will be defending his featherweight title against Brian Ortega this Sunday at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on September 26, 10:00 a.m. (GMT+8).
