Mary C Posted March 18, 2022 Share Posted March 18, 2022 The Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, the last team to reach it to the quarterfinal stage after defeating the NorthPort Batang Pier, 101-98, in a rematch last Sunday, takes on the Hotshots, the competition's defending champion going into the playoffs. Magnolia enters the playoffs as the top-ranked club in the country although it is coming off a loss to Blackwater. The Bossing's victory ended a 29-game losing streak and prevented them from going winless in the tournament. That didn't actually concern Hotshots head coach Chito Victolero, who is certain that his team would be ready to face the eager Fuel Masters. The Hotshots have had a whole week of relaxation, and Calvin Abueva, the team's main source of strength on the floor, is set to return. Because of a calf muscle ailment, Abueva missed half of the elimination round games, but he is expected to play versus his former squad. After all, Phoenix is on its way to the playoffs. The Fuel Masters finished the elimination round with a 1-3 record but won a one-game playoff against the NorthPort Batang Pier last Sunday, 101-98, for the final slot in the quarterfinals. Matthew Wright only took 8 shots and concluded with 11 points, so it was a gritty triumph for Phoenix. Wright, on the other hand, had 18 points on 7/12 shooting in the first encounter with Magnolia. The Fuel Masters will need others to stand up like they did in the NorthPort game if they are to defeat the Hotshots. The Magnolia Hotshots are favored to win their game against the Phoenix Fuel Masters this Friday, but that is easier than it sounds. The Fuel Masters will enter this competition on a high after clinching a quarterfinal spot with a heart-stopping triumph last Sunday.
