UFC: Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier | Dec 12 at 11AM

UFC 269: Oliveira vs. Poirier. One of the main events in UFC starts now as lightweight champion Charles Oliveira takes on the top-ranked challenger Dustin Poirier at the UFC 269, T-Mobile Arena, Nevada, Las Vegas this Sunday, December 12. Will the lightweight champion keep his lightweight belt, or will the challenger emerge as the new lightweight champion?

Oliveira (31-8-0) is currently on a 9th-winning streak, while Poirier (28-6-0) won seven of his last eight fights with only one loss against Kbabib Nurmagomedov.

Oliveira poses a lot of problems for his opponents because he is one of the best fighters in terms of offense as he can Thai march forward behind a high guard. He also has a long, daring prod to set up for right hands and leg kicks. He also likes to keep solid left hooks to counter-check his opponents or to include it at the end of his combination attacks.

Whenever Oliveira finds the right footing in fights, he is swift in creating elbow attacks and devastating uppercuts that usually put the fight in his favor. Despite these strengths, Oliveira also has weaknesses such as being open to heavy body damage and power shots by his opponents that can penetrate his defense.

Poirier, on the other hand, is a very aggressive fighter out of the box. He’s the one who usually starts and controls brawls. Throughout his career, he has made significant improvements to his power and fighting style, showing an excellent level of awareness in distance and footwork. He’s also magnificent in shifting his stance for setups to create attack opportunities as he adjusts his angles to the best position possible with exceptional match-ending attacks in mind.

The number one contender already proved that his style and punches are one of the most powerful in the sport as he demonstrates an insane improvement to his prodding, pulling, and returning.

Despite being a contender, Poirier is the one favored to win by fans because he has ranked three spots above Oliveira according to the UFC’s pound-for-pound fight rankings. However, we are still betting that Oliveira will successfully defend his title at the UFC 269 because he is a master in front-headlock attacks, displaying the ability to change the dynamic of a position as he releases multiple submission attempts. He also worked vigorously to improve his grappling game since his defeat from Frankie Edgar back at UFC 162. Now, it is normal to see him outwrestle stronger opponents early in the fights.

UFC 269: Oliveira vs. Poirier. Sunday, 12/12/21, at the T-Mobile Arena, Nevada, Las Vegas.
