PBA Governor's Cup 2023

NLEX Road Warriors vs Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters

When his current contract with the team expires, JONATHON Simmons is determined to take NLEX to another victory. The Phoenix Fuel Masters, who the Road Warriors are scheduled to play in the PBA Governors' Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Saturday, should not take kindly to that. Before leaving Sunday to return to his former team in China, an agreement that was reached by all parties before the conference even began, Simmons stated his intentions as "a win. Nothing less than winning." NLEX has won three games in a row, with its most recent victory coming against sister team TNT last Wednesday, 110-108, largely thanks to Simmons.

Wayne Selden, another former NBA player, has been lined up to replace Simmons, but he'll have a tough act to follow given Simmons' averages of 36.7 points, 47.4 percent field goal shooting, 9.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals. It makes sense that Phoenix coach Jamike Jarin has made choking Simmons a top priority if his team wants to build on last Thursday's 108-97 victory over NorthPort, the Fuel Masters' first victory in four games. On the eve of the game, Jarin stated, "Main concern right now is their import," before adding another "must" for his players, who were expected to be led once again by Du'vaughn Maxwell, Jason Perkins, and RJ Jazul.

Jarin said, "We definitely need to get down on defense since they're the No. 1 team in fastbreak points," adding that his Fuel Masters could have used a longer break after playing four games in nine days but are undoubtedly fired up nevertheless. The fact that we'll have a long break after this game means that Phoenix also needs to be on the lookout for Kevin Alas, who is the top local NLEX player with an average of 20.67 and the regular anchor of the Road Warriors' running game, according to Jarin, whose team's next opponent is Magnolia on Friday.

Meralco Bolts vs Blackwater Bossing

Troy Rosario has been reactivated by Blackwater, but Shawn Glover will continue to play at least in the Bossing match against Meralco on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. Although sources said the team had flown in a potential import replacement in the shape of former NBA player Troy Williams, Blackwater had not notified the PBA Commissioner's Office of the import change as of the time of this story's writing. Rosario's return to service is a certain, providing him an extra warm body for the Bossing's 6:45 p.m. matchup with the Bolts. Tussle.

In contrast to KJ McDaniels and the Bolts, who are looking to bounce back from a 96-88 loss to the Terrafirma Dyip a week ago, Glover and Co. will be out to pick up the pieces after a crushing 105-86 loss to San Miguel Beer on Wednesday. The Bossing were coming off a 108-105 victory against the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters until they were destroyed by the Beermen, dropping them to 1-2. The Bolts were in a flawless two-game run until falling to the Dyip. Both teams want to regain momentum before their match at Antipolo. Rosario's return is undoubtedly a positive news for the Bossing given their ceiling shortage.

The 6-foot-4 forward, who joined the Bossing from TNT, has only appeared in five games since his move. Plantar fasciitis and a bone spur surgery cut short his time in the Commissioner's Cup. Rey Publico, who was activated in Rosario, has been placed on the injured/reserve list. Glover and his response to the rumored arrival of a potential replacement are also in the spotlight. Whatever the case, Glover will have a difficult time defeating the Bolts and their all-around import McDaniels. Following their upset by the Jordan Williams-led Terrafirma Dyip, McDaniels might be in for another tumultuous evening. Compared to Williams' 29 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and three assists, the Meralco import had 29 points and 19 rebounds.
