This Sunday will mark the first time in 15 years that the Clasico will be played without Lionel Messi or Sergio Ramos at either Barcelona or Real Madrid. Messi vs. Ramos showdown had been a staple of El Clasicos for the previous 17 years. Real Madrid entered the match second in La Liga with 17 points after eight games, three points behind Real Sociedad’s leaders but with a game in hand. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior have scored this season, and Carlo Ancelotti will rely on them on Sunday. On the other hand, Barcelona has battled for form under coach Ronal Koeman and is currently sixth in the standings with 15 points. In contrast, the Catalans will hope for Sergio Aguero to help them turn things around this season. Barcelona and Real Madrid have met 245 times previously. Real Madrid is entering this game coming off a 5-0 win in their last Champions League win at Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday. This will serve as a huge confidence boost for their game this Sunday. They are also looking to contend for the title once again this season after finishing short last season with 2nd place. Sergio Ramos is not looking to falter anytime soon as he aims to be the heart and soul. Real Madrid needs to finish this game and prove to the world that Real Madrid is the best in this rivalry. On the flip side, Barcelona had 0 expectations going into La Liga, but after defeating Valencia (3-1) and Dynamo Kyiv (1-0), Barcelona is sitting as the 7th seed in La Liga. Winning this game would make them eligible to qualify for the Champions League. With young stars like Ansu Fati, Real Madrid should not be much better than Barcelona.
