Only two teams are in contention for the title of new All-Filipino champions following the TNT Tropang Giga’s 97-79 victory over the San Miguel Beermen in Game 7 of their best-of-seven series in Pampanga on Sunday. Having finished second in last year’s all-Filipino Conference, the Tropang Giga will meet the Magnolia Hotshots for the right to play in this year’s championship round. The runners-up from last season will square off against the Magnolia Hotshots in a best-of-seven series this week. The Hotshots have been one of the more consistent teams in the ongoing PBA tournament, finishing in the top half of the classification phase and challenging the title in the playoffs. To re-enter the finals, the Hotshots have to overcome another stern test from the Bolts. They were forced to play catch-up in the early goings and had to hang on for dear life in the end, as Meralco showed no signs of relenting in its push.

TNT is just one series away from claiming it all. After beating the San Miguel Beermen in a seven-game series, they are looking to once again gain another title in six years with the addition of rookie Mikey Williams and  guard Roger Pogoy. They have the chance to beat all SMC’s franchise teams and to finally redeem themselves after multiple heartbreaks against them in the past. TNT has last won a championship in 2015 and has fallen short of the grand prize as SMC teams proved to be an impenetrable force since then.

On  the other hand, Magnolia’s Ian Sangalang and Mark Barroca led the way for the Hotshots against Meralco Bolts and are looking to do the same against TnT Tropang Giga. Calvin “the Beast” Abueva and Paul Lee also showed flashes after scoring a series-high of 19 points and 28 points respectively. Coming in as underdogs, Magnolia is looking to show the reason why they are in the finals and is focused to be better in the finals than the semi-finals.

Will TNT finally break the curse and put an end to SMC’s reign? Or will SMC continue to reign over the PBA and will prove once again that they are still the kings of the league? This will surely be a close game but will end in TNT Tropang Giga being the match winner.

Magnolia Hotshots will take on TNT Tropang Giga in the Finals of the PBA Philippine Cup at Don Honorio Ventura State University, Bacolor, Pampanga on October 22, 2021, 6:00 PM (GMT +8).
