A battle in the American League East is about to unfold in the August 19-22 series of the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. Saturday, August 20, is scheduled to be game two for the two rivals, and the fixture will be held at the Yankee Stadium in New York, courtesy of the Yankees.

Starting with the dear home team Yankees, the New York team is at quite a rough patch. While they’re solid on top of the AL East, they’ve lost two of three games to the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, and even got swept by the St. Louis Cardinals. This isn’t the same Yankees everyone was cheering for during the start of this season. Shakily holding onto fourth place in the MLB, they might soon be thrust down to 5th if the Atlanta Braves catch up as they’re only 2 losses behind. Garnering 73 losses and 45 losses, Aaron Judge still leads the Yankees’ batting average while Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon, and Nestor Cortes remain the team’s pitching leaders.

The Toronto Blue Jays have collected 62 wins and 54 losses this season. Third in the AL East and 11th in the MLB, this Canadian team finished ninth last season and still has the time to outdo their previous bearings. As of their recent games though, Toronto has had some trouble fending off the Orioles this week. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. have positioned themselves as the Blue Jays’ batting leaders, with Alek Manoah and Kevin Gausman taking care of the pitching side of things.

Alas, we’ve placed our bets, and it’s in favor of the Toronto Blue Jays. While numbers support New York to be the better team on paper, it’s quite dangerous to rely on them due to their most recent games. The Yankees need to recuperate to get back on track. We just don’t see it against the Blue Jays, or immediately soon.
